News Story
Stormy weather and a spate of motor accidents in the past 48 hours have made it a busy time for members. There have been a total of 23 call outs over the two days, most directly attributed to "effects of weather" such as power wires or trees brought down. We have also been at 8 motor vehicle accidents, some of which may also have been caused by the wet and windy conditions. The worst of these was this evening's fatal crash at Shamrock Park, near the Howick end of the Whitford Road in the gorge. It was the second major accident we attended on this road within our busy 48 hours: yesterday a truck hit a power pole leaving live wires across the road. Members also attended 4 structure fires over the two days, including a small blaze in an equipment room at TVNZ's Headquarters in the city which delayed tonight's news programme going to air. Longest duration on site for our members was three and a half hours at Kelston carrying out scene protection until Vector could make fallen power lines safe.
